What you can do
This started as a project for a college course, but it turned into a passion. We hope it inspires you as well.
Keep money local
Your dollars spent in local businesses feeds local families, rather than buying corporate executives their newest yacht
Promote Ethical Business
Local businesses are more likely to follow state and federal tax laws. It’s unlikely they will have the resources to hide profits or outsource their labor to other countries.
Vote
Of course voting in local elections is important, but you can also vote with your money. If you and your family spend it at local stores instead of big corporate chains, then with enough of us, corporations may lose profits and change their practices.
Eat local
Not only will that help the owners pay their bills, but it means more jobs for your neighbors.
Shop at thrift stores
Reusing items means that less is wasted in the long run. Check out local thrift stores. They have great deals on clothes, books, board games, and tons of other stuff you will find interesting.
Farmers Market or local butcher
Buying direct from farmers lowers the carbon footprint of your purchase. The food didn’t need to be shipped from other countries, instead it was grown right in your state. Also, it once again helps someone in your community pay their bills.
